American Corner MakerSpace The American Corner MakerSpace in Pretoria is a MathsGenius Leadership Institute (MGLI) programme in conjunction with the US Embassy as part of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI). The Maker Space is a hub for young people to design and create any product or model that they wish. The Maker Space aims to stimulate young people to ultimately create products that they will be able to sell on a large scale. It is a birthing place for young people to ultimately run their own manufacturing companies. The Maker Space will also provide an online platform for young "makers" to showcase their products. We want young people to join—and eventually lead—the growing Maker Movement. We are recruiting volunteer Maker Programme Facilitators who will be stationed at the host site in Pretoria in 2016 to engage entrepreneurs and learners in creative making opportunities, while gaining experience serving as community leaders. The Maker Programme Facilitators will also spend a portion of their time as Makers-in-Residence, focused on developing ideas and programs for the host site. The Maker Programme Facilitators will also be responsible for managing online projects. Neither the American Corner nor MGLI will cover any expenses associated with the voluntary role.
