1.0 The RiD 2016 Conference
1.1 Overview
This is a 3-day conference event that brings scholars, professionals, practitioners and graduate students that are interested or are actively engaged in research and application of innovative to development. The conference aims at facilitating multidisciplinary research on developing country issues, stimulating collaborations between developing country researchers and their counterparts from the developed world, broadening and deepening global understanding of the various contextual factors influencing development, and advancing appropriate solutions to development challenges within this context.
There have so far been few platforms on which developing country scholars, practitioners and students have been able to engage and deepen their understanding of those key context-specific factors that could enable or inhibit meaningful and sustainable developmental progress. The need for such a platform has become even greater with the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that provide all actors with the kind of targets that they, in partnership, need to work towards.
The conference will bring together global expertise on issues that reflect the contextual distinctiveness of the challenges in developing world - issues that should inform the direction of efforts towards ensuring that the SDG can be attained.
1.2 RiD 2016 Conference Theme
The 2016 conference will focus on the identification of various key contextual issues and so expand the common knowledge base from which strategic partnerships could be forged and collaborative efforts enhanced.
