The MENA Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Congress is a strategic platform for policy makers working to stimulate the pharmaceutical industry, overcome the key challenges, set up a strategic plan to protect the industry from foreign competition and raise the quality of medicines to reach global standards. The government in most of the MENA countries fund majority of the healthcare services. With healthcare expenditures exceeding USD 50 billion and expected to reach over 140 billion by 2020, it is very important to stimulate local production of medicines, especially generic pharmaceuticals, and cut down on costs associated with importing medications. It is predicted that generic pharmaceutical needs will increase from $500M to $2.5B by 2020 for MENA region – a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of greater than 15%.
