ESP and Psychokinesis

A Philosophical Examination (Revised Edition)

by Stephen E. Braude

07/28/2002

This work was the first sustained philosophical study of psychic phenomena to follow C.D. Broad's LECTURES ON PSYCHICAL RESEARCH, written nearly twenty years earlier. The author clearly defines the categories of psychic phenomena, surveys the most compelling experimental data, and traces their implications for the philosophy of science and the philosophy of mind. He considers carefully the abstract presuppositions underlying leading theories of psychic phenomena, and he offers bold criticisms of both mechanistic analyses of communication and psychophysical identity theories. In addition, he challenges the received view that experimental repeatability is the paramount criterion for evaluating parapsychological research, and he exposes the deep confusions underlying Jung's concept of synchro...

The Path of Yog

Cure Without Medicines

by Ashok K. Sachdeva

06/30/2018

'Yoga' (to be pronounced as 'Yog') is predominantly thought of as physical exercise only and the 'aasan' (written as 'aasana') meaning 'posture', have gained wide-spread popularity in recent decades. Yogaasans are in fact the most superficial aspect of this profound science of unfolding the infinite potentials of the human mind and soul.Apart from the spiritual goals, the physical postures of Yog are used to alleviate health problems, reduce stress and make the spine supple. These days Yog is used as a complete exercise program and physical therapy routine. Different diseases occurring in stomach, neck, spine and knees can be cured by Yogic methods including Yog Aasans and Pranayams.Good health ought to be everybody's concern, not solely the medical profession's business. The Yog postures ...

The Healing Spirit

Embracing the Healing Spirit Between and Within Us

by Vincent L. Perri

05/28/2019

The Healing Spirit explores the idea that there is healing in dialogue. Using examples from Judaic, Christian and Buddhist philosophies and drawing on his personal and professional experiences, Dr. Perri explains how he believes the healing spirit emerges when two people unconditionally encounter each other. Introducing his concepts of the invisible matrix, archetypal language, and the naked essentials of relation he draws on the works of Martin Buber, Carl G. Jung and Abraham Joshua Heschel and their germinal contribution to the topic. The Healing Spirit can be a valuable guide to anyone in the healing or helping professions or anyone who simply wishes to help another. The Healing Spirit explores many of the personal encounters of people in the depths of sorrow, and how meaningful interpe...

Lilith's Fire

Reclaiming Our Sacred Lifeforce

by Deborah Grenn-Scott

07/31/2000

In Lilith's Fire, Grenn-Scott examines why and how modern women are still demonized-identified as "bad" for actions perceived as reasonable for men, through techniques used for thousands of years-and how women have started to reverse this tendency by redefining right and wrong. Demonization, she notes, has been effective: controlling, manipulating and dividing women to keep them powerless, pitting Lilith against Eve, "good girl" against "bad girl"; and as a means of keeping one group, religion or idea dominant over another. In dismantling this technique, the author shows that portrayals of women as innately evil undermine the self-confidence of all women, and in turn their ability to take risks, assume leadership or claim power, from bedroom to boardroom. She provides strong models fo...

Nordic Magic Healing

1:Healing galdr, healing runes

by Yves Kodratoff

06/06/2003

Galdr is a song or howling by which a poem written in runes is "made active". Anthropological texts will often describe a healing ritual where the healer has been seen to mutter some indistinct words over the patient. This book gives these 'mutterings' back their true meaning and importance. It will also explain their rational value by clearly stating the root causes of the sickness, and explore their religious meaning. The poetry and creativity of these chants combine to form a very effective healing technique, albeit a very difficult one. Many will be familiar with karate's 'scream that kills', that came to us from the East. We will explore the 'scream (or song) that heals' called galdr by the Norse. In this book, galdr will be explored in two ways: by looking at a new interpreta...

OUT OF THE BROOM CLOSET?

A Guide to Revealing Your Practice of Witchcraft to Others

by Gary Cantrell

11/18/1998

Out Of The Broom Closet deals openly and honestly with the questions and issues surrounding a witches decision to make his or her hither-to hidden practice of the Old Religion known to family members, friends and co-workers. The author has attempted to discuss this issue candidly, and while offering suggestions and guidelines to possibly ease the process of stepping out the book in no way implies that this step is one that should be taken by all practitioners of witchcraft. Out Of The Broom Closet includes brief chapters on the definition and history of the Wiccan religion but deals primarily with the pro's and con's of making one's practice of Wicca known to others, describing in detail the authors personal experiences in doing so. The legal and emotional rational supporting the deci...

Elemental Movement

A Somatic Approach to Movement Education

by Rae Johnson

10/01/2001

This thesis describes the theory and methods of an original somatic approach to movement education. Based on the five Elements of ancient philosophical tradition, Elemental Movement integrates somatic and alchemical principles, processes, and practice. It employs movement as the primary vehicle for a wide range of personal explorations, using the Elements both as a framework and as a set of symbolic tools. The first two sections offer a review of the literature on Elemental, alchemical, and psychological theory related to the development of Elemental Movement. The third section outlines a basic conceptual framework, and the fourth describes the methodology of the approach. In addition to describing the historical, theoretical, and methodological bases of Elemental Movement, this book is...

Spirit Man

The Cosmology of Rudolf Steiner

by Steve Kasperowicz

10/03/1999

From his childhood, Steiner already possessed the ability to perceive the supersensible-to see the reality of the spiritual world with the same clarity and certainty as he saw the physical. As he matured, he felt a profound need to bring a discipline to his supersensible discoveries-to develop a methodology equal to what the natural science of his day demanded. While earning degrees in mathematics, physics and chemistry at the Technical University in Vienna, he began developing an approach to a systematic research of psychological and spiritual phenomena. His doctoral thesis "Truth and Knowledge" was followed, in 1894, by "The Philosophy of Freedom", a seminal work in which Steiner established a firm foundation for a science of the supersensible. Most of us, I believe, view our day t...

The Battle Between the Moon and Sun

The Separation of Women's Bodies from the Cosmic Dance

by Jenny Kien

01/02/2003

Woman's mysterious bleedings in time with moon cycles were first seen as the human embodiment of the cosmic mysteries of birth, death and rebirth and served as the basis for time-keeping. With the rise of absolute kingships in the Ancient Near East, authority shifted from women and goddesses to men and gods. The male sun displaced the cycling moon as dominant deity. This conflict between the moon and sun estranged women from the cosmic dance and led to their social marginalization. Spiritual imagery became solar, an exclusive and masculine imagery recognizing only one truth and demonizing all else. Incorporated into Judaism and Christianity, this imagery became an integral part of Western culture. The history of the Jewish and Christian calendars show how women were excluded from time-keepi...

by Ronald R. Rollins

07/15/1999

Is it necessary to accept what science presents about how old our earth is? Do Christians have to set aside their beliefs when it comes to understanding the origin of our earth? Dr. Rollins presents an answer to these questions as an emphatic NO! He shows us how the true age of the earth agrees with scriptures and that truth from any source is self consistent.

...How do we know that something is true or false? How does the brain discern the truth? What kind of mechanism allows the brain to interpret the information received in the shape of electrical and chemical impulses to which it is constantly exposed? Is it the case that our brains are endowed with appropriate algorithmic rules for discriminating between truth and untruth, alongside certain rules for handling, say, optical information? Is it the case that the brain produces illusions of truth like it does illusions of vision? My answer is in the positive, and this is what I shall be seeking to show in this essay. An essay in style, The Brain, Consciousness and Illusion of Truth is a valuable addition to the literature on the mind/body problem and an engrossing account of the human brain ...

This project defines the intervention of yoga therapy for perimenopausal symptoms of hot flushes, anxiety, and depression according to the principles of Ayurveda. This is important in light of research showing the costs versus the benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and the growing population of hormone users as the lifespan increases. The research shows that there is a basis for effective alternatives to HRT for women who cannot or choose not to supplement estrogen levels using pharmaceutical hormones. Ayurveda offers a diagnostic approach that includes consideration of a woman's individual constitution as a predisposing cause of menopausal symptoms. Through questionnaire and pulse diagnosis, a woman may determine her body type and be provided guidelines unique for her cons...

Infertility affects more than 3 million married couples in the United States. This study explored the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for treating female infertility. Surveys queried allopathic practitioners and TCM practitioners regarding their perceived knowledge and use of TCM. The vast majority of allopathic practitioners referred patients to acupuncturists and believed that acupuncture helped patients. The majority of respondents identified a trend for treating female infertility with TCM and Western medical procedures. The majority of respondents supported the concurrent use of allopathic protocols and TCM but did not support the concurrent use of TCM and Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM). More than 62% of respondents expressed familiarity with clinical studies that used TCM fo...

by Vincent L. Perri

Dr. Vincent L. Perri recently published his seventh book, The Healing Space: Understanding the True Nature of Inner Healing. The book is an essay exploring the relationship between two people in serious unconditional dialogue, and how the space between them can be deepened to facilitate inner healing. The essay is written for practitioners and laypersons who are interested in helping anyone suffering from inner grief and illness. Dr. Perri wrote this extended essay as a follow-up text for practitioners of the healing sciences, and for laypersons interested in developing interpersonal skills in grief and illness counseling. The essay elaborates on the work of Martin Buber, C.G. Jung and D.W. Winnicott to explain the deeper relationship of our interpersonal space, and how it can be accessed...

Gorkhas are inhabitants of the southern foothills of the Eastern Himalayas and the adjoining plains. Using their own ethnic medicines they survived thousands of years in the chilly hills and sultry mosquito and fly infested regions below. H. K Pradhan belongs to this community. Noticing miraculous effects of some such medicines, yet in early teens, he started garnering their secret tips about 45 years ago. These tips/ medicines had gradually evolved at the least since as far back as 6 millennia. He came across medicines possibly learnt by chance, by trial and error, by observing animals using herbs as medicines, and some of them believed as learnt in dreams or even with the help of occult rituals. He was curious as to how such communities could know innumerable medicines even before modern...

Spiritual healing modalities are powerful tools, which enhance holistic and allopathic methods in caring for special needs children. This research paper explores four methods of spiritual healing, which benefit disabled children on all levels of existence. The spiritual healing techniques of Touch Therapy, Sound Therapy, Channeling and Love Therapy address the unique mind-body-spirit requirements of the pediatric special needs community. Spiritual healing empowers parents and caretakers to take the responsibility of healing into their own homes and to enhance communication with their child via the Divine Spirit in ways not normally explored in traditional approaches. The scientific study of energy medicine further adds credibility to alternative models of healing and opens the minds of...

Shamanism, hypnosis, imaginal psychotherapies, and meditation are based on the use of what we in the modern western world think of as non-ordinary human consciousness. These four modalities have fundamental similarities and differences in purpose, theory, technique, type of alternative consciousness, and their application of non-ordinary reality. Shamanism, the oldest and most intertwined with the cultures in which it is practiced, will be explored as a model for individual healing and transformation and professional training. The shamanic way will also be explored as a model of consciousness and a world-view that offers individuals, groups, and society much needed coping mechanisms, healing techniques, and transformative values that may be helpful in dealing with this trying and important...

Surviving Stress

A Study of Professional Women's Stress Levels, Their Genetic Resiliency, and Herbal Adaptogens as an Effective Intervention

by Dr. Lynda K. Wilson-Hare

05/17/2007

A study of professional women was initiated to determine if herbal adaptogens have any effect on improving resiliency for coping with stress. An herbal adaptogen is an herb that helps the body adjust to difficult or extreme circumstances (Derrida, 2004). An iridology assessment was completed to define the subjects’ genetic profile for resiliency. It was hypothesized that if the person were genetically resilient, herbal adaptogens would not be effective, as their stress-handling capabilities were naturally strong. Through resiliency questionnaires, a positive improvement in the ability to manage stress was noted in 11 out of 12 subjects’ post-herbal intake. This research suggested that our ability to recover from stress is not totally related to our genetic properties, and can be enhanc...

Secret Death and New Life

Self-Development Strategies Founded on Analytical Spirituality for Learned People

by S. M. Zakir Hussain

02/05/2005

The book has been structured into three parts, namely, Analytical Meditation, The Death of Diseases: Psychological Vaccination, Communication with the Heart: The Utterances that Provide Energy, and The Architecture of the Mind: The Psychology of Spirituality. The entire approach is founded on the concept of the combination of Analysis (or self-enquiry), Meditation, Self-Hypnosis, and Prayer and is expected to simultaneously work on the different dimensions of the mind –emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and behavioral. It is expected, as hundreds of the author’s readers have reported to have experienced, that the method will work instantly on the mind, without the reader’s having to do any special mental exercise as is typical of most meditation practices.
